States are now more financially viable to embark on more capital projects than under previous administrations, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike declared yesterday.

Wike spoke in Ika Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State during the inauguration of the 15.13-kilometre Ika-Azumini Road, which links the state to Abia State.

The FCT minister hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for ending the oil subsidy regime.

He noted that the President’s bold decision paved the way for states to get more funds to do life-changing projects for their people.

“When I was governor, I recall how difficult it was to get money to do projects. Monies were used for the payment of oil subsidy. Now, you have a leader who came and removed that subsidy.

“Your governor has confirmed here that more money is coming to the state, and he is doing projects without owing any bank. He’s not going to leave debt for whoever comes after him.

“Why is he getting more money now? This is only possible under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. So, all things are getting better because the leadership of the present government has made money available to the states to carry out development.

“The chairman of the council stated here that either before the creation or after the creation of the state, they have never seen anything like it,” Wike said.

The minister hailed Governor Umo Eno for building the road, which links Akwa Ibom State to Abia State.

“I commend you for taking that bold step to construct this road. This is why your people are very happy. I thank you for what you have done,” he said.

Eno thanked President Tinubu for empowering states with funds to carry out projects that affect the lives of citizens positively.

“As a governor, I can tell you that there are funds to do our projects, such as this, without owing the banks, and we are not leaving debts for those who will take over from us.

“So, we want to support President Bola Tinubu. We believe he should finish his eight years in office. We in Akwa Ibom are united in support of the President. We are united in support of the distinguished Senate President Godswill Obot Akpabio,” the governor said.
