The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday disclosed why he would not forgive the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, Chairman, Christopher Maikalangu.

Wike said he has forgiven Maikalangu for previously naming streets and roads after personalities he like, but he won’t be forgiven again.

He issued the warning during the flag-off of the provision of engineering infrastructure to outstanding layouts within Guzape A09 Lots I & II district and AIT Neighborhood in Asokoro A04 District on Wednesday.

The Minister directed the AMAC Chairman to follow due process before any road or street is named within the capital city.

Wike said: “But in cities here, government must know whom are you naming the street after. You don’t come because somebody, you don’t know where the money comes from.

“Then you go and know a very important street. We’ll not do that again. I’ve forgiven you yesterday. But for today I won’t forgive you again.”

The Minister said Nigerians who have impacted the country would be immortalized by naming streets and roads after them.

“Tomorrow, you may see footballers or sports people whom they have done well. And they say look, name this street after them.

“They will not be immortalized. I will remember them tomorrow for what they have done for the country, for what they have done for the city.

“You can’t bring somebody because you don’t know where he made five million naira,” he added.
