The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike stated that President Bola Tinubu’s leadership has enabled state governors and the FCT Administration to stop running to banks for loans to pay salaries. Instead, banks are now approaching states, urging them not to withdraw their funds.

Wike made this remark on Wednesday, at the flag-off of the construction of the Outer Southern Expressway in Abuja.

He credited the President’s leadership for the current situation, where states have sufficient funds not only to pay salaries but also to execute projects.

He emphasized that good governance has made it possible for states to thrive without relying on debt, and praised the President’s decision to remove fuel subsidy, which has positively impacted states’ finances.

Wike said visionary leadership and purposeful decision-making have transformed the country’s economic landscape, benefiting states and the FCT.

He said, “President Tinubu’s leadership has made a significant difference. States now have sufficient funds to pay salaries, carry out government activities, and embark on projects.

“This wasn’t the case before. His decision to remove fuel subsidy has positively impacted states’ finances, enabling them to thrive without debt.

“Good governance has made it possible for states to focus on development rather than debt servicing. No governor talks about leaving debt for their successor anymore. That’s true leadership.

“The President’s visionary leadership and willingness to take tough decisions have turned things around. The impact of his leadership is evident in the FCT, where projects are thriving.

“We appreciate his purposeful leadership, which has set a standard for others to follow. The people of FCT have benefited from his good governance, and we thank him for it.

“Governors no longer running after banks for funds to pay salaries” Wike said.

In her remarks, the Minister of state for FCT,
Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, described the project as a bold step toward easing traffic flow, stimulating economic activities, and enhancing mobility for FCT residents.

She noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership emphasizes visible transformation of lives and communities.

Mahmoud also praised FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for his energy, foresight, and passion for infrastructure development, saying that under his watch, the FCT has become a construction powerhouse and a beacon of national renewal.
